Benefits Of Algae To Make Biofuel
The political situation in Iran and Iraq is intensifying. Oil import from the Middle East is becoming expensive with each passing day. Natural fossil fuels are being rapidly consumed, but their demand is not seeing a decrease. The world is facing fuel crisis. Difficult times call for difficult measures. Today, every individual is trying his/her best to find an alternative that will reduce our dependency on crude oil. Algae, considered the lowest form of life, are also being studied to produce biofuel. More..

Why Biofuels Are Not Used More Often
Biofuels are being used to end the energy crisis that the world is facing today. There are many advantages of using this alternative fuel that are cited. Biofuels have plenty of benefits. They help reduce toxic emissions from engines, minimize dependency on fossil fuels, nullify greenhouse gas emissions and are also fuel efficient. However, the truth remains that not all consumers have taken to biofuels in a big way. |

There are still many apprehensions regarding the use of biofuels to run transport system on land. Biofuel is not being looked upon favorably. Let’s look at some of the points that go against its favor.
- Along with energy crisis, the world is now facing food crisis. The ongoing debate is fuel vs food. In our enthusiasm to find the best alternative fuel, we have sold our food produce for conversion to fuel. Soybean and corn prices have rocketed. While the public is going hungry, farms are turning in to money making machines.
- Asian countries are looking to destroying their rainforests in order to clear land to grow biofuel friendly plants. It means loss of habitat of numerous plants and animals. This will create an imbalance in nature; a major environmental concern.
- First generation biofuels will not be available for long. Hence, alternatives need to be found that will be sustainable. At the same time, they should also not create food crisis by affecting the production and distribution of food.
- It has been proved that biofuels reduce greenhouse gas emissions. But recent studies found that biofuel made from corn and rapeseed oil emits nitrogen oxide. This gas is highly poisonous in nature and more likely to cause long term health hazards compared to carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide emissions
Experiments are proving that biofuel isn’t as friendly as it was previously taken to be. Unless sustainable biofuels are found, the validity of using them will always remain questionable.
