Uses of fossil fuels
- Fossil fuels are mainly used to produce electricity. Coal is being used from times immemorial for this purpose. It is used to power more than half of all electricity resources used today. However, petroleum and natural gas also serve this purpose. Take a look around you. Your light, computer, television, are all running on fossil fuels.
- Transport system has also greatly benefitted from fossil fuels discovery. Gasoline is the fossil fuel that serves this purpose. Gas stations are equipped to provide us with refills and refills of gas. This is one reason we haven’t been able to shake off our dependency on these fuels. The infrastructure that we have today is replete with providing us what we need. New alternative fuels aren’t able to compete with gasoline when it comes to use of vehicles.
- Heating and cooling of homes is also achieved by use of fossil fuels. In countries that experience harsh winters, natural gas and oil are used to heat home sand offices. In countries with hot summers, air conditioners are used that use power that comes from fossil fuels.
- The biggest advantage of fossil fuels is their effectiveness and their abundance. Because they were available in plenty, we could utilize them for all our needs. However, we used them to such an extent that they are now on the verge of depletion.
